Seeing blue

Did I tell you I started a photography club at work? A friend of mine got a camera (not a Nikon, sadly...) almost at the same time as me. We were both excited, carrying our cameras everywhere and taking photos of everything. We got talking about how we sometimes felt too shy to stop and take a photo in the middle of the street, specially when you have to get on your knees, or you're seemingly taking a photo of something irrelevant on the road and people wonder what you are doing...

So we got a group of friends together and now we choose a topic and go out once a month during our lunchtime to take photos around Oxford. Last month we took photos of blue things and next week we're expanding the theme to take photos of blocks of colour. We're going to submit the best ones to the Tate Liverpool Colour chart group in Flickr.

These are some of the ones I took last month. It's amazing what you see when you start looking, there was blue everywhere!

Good idea to get together - strength in numbers.

  2. All of those blues make me long to go to the seaside!

Now that I've been bitten by the photography bug, I CONSTANTLY want to take pictures of interesting people that I see. (But I'm shy; and I worry about being intrusive.)

  10. Beautiful photos, I'd never thought you'd see that kind of Mediterranean color in the UK, but as you say, when you actually LOOK you see a lot, and that's why I've come to eventually like a lot those "theme" projects! You're a woman full of ideas, I love the photo club with co-workers!

  11. When I was living with A. he has a reflex-digital Olympus, he has carried with, so I bought one little one. I am a reflex girl so this automatic is killing me, but on the other hand I can carry everywhere with me. Taking photos to all little things.

  14. Oh I have so been there. I will be walking with my camera and really want to take a picture of something random, and all the sudden I feel like people are watching me, and wondering why in the world I am taking a picture of a crack in the sidewalk or something.

I like your idea for the club, and am excited to come back and see more. I love the blue though. That first picture is stellar.

  15. What a great idea. I am loving the blue, too. I wouldn't say that I usually a "blue" person, but I am coming around to the color. Afterall, the color usually represents the very things that I enjoy~serenity, coolness, calm, and so on. Thanks for the post. I am loving your blog, too!

  16. Gosh these are stunning. I've not yet done a 'group' shoot, but sometimes I feel very shy about taking a shot I want...and sometimes I flunk it completely. Safety in numbers!

I adore the first image, truly outstanding. x

  20. I am really enjoying these blues! You have a great way of capturing color, tantalizing tints that are often right in front of us yet somehow uncovered by your lens. Lovely. First yellows, now blues. I love green. What do you see?
